“It was a severe case, I think” said the doctor.
“He kept mumbling the same words over, over, perseverating.”

The doctor lowered his face a little. He took off his glasses, rubbed his eyes. “It seemed strong medication was the only answer.”

He was defending his past decisions. Once I would have been strident. Now I too was tired. I tried to be gentle. “What was he saying?”

The psychiatrist looked at me. Despite himself he half-smiled. “There are so many with us. There are so many with us, there are so many with us…”
